Many argue this is because the federal government has raised the bar, but in reality it is because many veteran teachers are dumbfounded by the logic of politicians. As a result, the teachers have given up, putting less and less effort into ensuring success for a child. The time has come to take a stand against this horrible legislation in order to secure an educational future for the next generation. Since its enactment numerous schools have taken drastic measures to ensure that they continue to receive funding. This effort includes the single most important thing preached to young children never to do and that is to cheat. Teachers now encourage cheating in order to keep their jobs and help the school district receive funding. In Chicago, about 5 percent of the 40,000 classrooms have seen cheating since legislation was stepped up (Grow, 2004). In mid-June a Boston principal was suspended with pay amidst accusations of aiding four students in cheating. In California a May review revealed that more than 200 teachers had been investigated for cheating. It is very clear that in the aftermath of the No Child Left Behind Act teachers and faculty are resorting to desperate measures to keep their funding. Explication of Greater Love essays Wilfred Owens Greater Love and Remarques All Quiet on the Western Front are two pieces of literature that examine the bond that men made with each other during World War I. The speaker in Greater Love tells of the sacrifices made during war to his lover, who he does not believe can understand the relationships made between soldiers. All Quiet on the Western Front is a story told from the perspective of a German soldier caught up in a war he doesnt understand. Both stories suggest that the love made between soldiers during the combat is the purest type possible. Wilfred Owen compares the love between soldier and the love between a man and a woman many times to show how strong the camaraderie between soldiers is. Owen does this by comparing different aspects of war to a characteristic of a woman. In the first stanza he compares war to her lips, in the second stanza he compares it to her figure, in the third it is compared to her voice and in the last stanza he compares the sacrifices made during war to the fullness of her heart. It hasn’t always been this way, however, during our nations earlier years, a handful of people have changed laws pertaining to women’s rights. Because of this, every woman, without regard for age or race, can vote, hold a government office, speak publicly, make decisions for herself, and provide for herself by working outside of the home. Women utilize these rights so that they do not lose them and end up in the same boat that the ancient Chinese were in. GENERAL APPROACHES FOR DOSE ADJUSTMENT IN RENAL DISEASE Renal insufficiency can markedly alter one or more of the pharmacokinetic parameters of a drug including oral bioavailability, volume of distribution, drug binding to plasma proteins, and most importantly the rates of metabolism and excretion, i. e. , drug clearance.. To minimize drug toxicity and maximize therapeutic benefits, it is often necessary to adjust drug dosage in proportion to the degree of renal insufficiency. A drug will most likely require dose adjustment in renal disease if: 1. A substantial fraction (> 40%) of the drug dose is excreted by the kidney either unchanged or as an active (or toxic) metabolites. 2. The drug or its active metabolite has a narrow therapeutic window such that drug accumulation cannot be tolerated. 3. The kidney is a major site for the inactivation of the drug. This applies mainly to peptides like insulin, glucagon, PTH, and imipenem. 4. There is a significant drop in the binding of the drug to plasma proteins. For instance, a decrease in the protein binding from 99 to 95% results in a fourfold rise in the unbound, active drug concentration. Dose adjustment may involve one or a combination of the following measures: 1. Extension of the dosing interval. 2. Reduction of the maintenance dose. 3. Administration of a loading dose. 4. Monitoring serum drug levels. FACTORS IN CHOOSING OF DOSE ADJUSTMENT APPROACH: Factors to consider when choosing appropriate dose adjustment approach are the class of drug ,the amplitude of the peak-trough fluctuation relative to the therapeutic index, magnitude of the dose with respect to the dose strength to be marketed and practicality of calculated dosing interval. Pharmacokinetic simulations can be especially helpful in visualizing the impact of various dose and interval changes and interval changes on the concentration time (C-T) profile at steady state. Reduced elimination of a drug prolongs its half life (t? ) as well as the time required for the serum level to reach a steady state (4 times t? ). Therefore, whenever it is clinically desirable to rapidly achieve a therapeutic steady state level a loading dose should administered. To maintain a therapeutic level and, at the same time, avoid drug accumulation and toxicity in a patient with reduced renal function, the clinician must consider reducing the size of the maintenance dose or the dosing frequency or both. In general, this reduction should also be proportional to the degree of renal impairment , but should also take into account adaptive or compensatory changes in the metabolism and excretion of the drug through non-renal routes. MAINTENANCE DOSE REDUCTION METHOD: The maintenance dose reduction method is used whenever a more constant (less oscillating) serum drug level is therapeutically preferable (e. . , ? -lactam antibiotics) Let us assume that one has already defined a safe and effective dose regimen for use in normal patients. This normal dose regimen is then adjusted according to dose fraction by two basic procedures. This is seen in the many rituals of gangs and the like, which include cutting, burning, or otherwise injuring oneself, simply to earn respect from other gang members. To me, this is ridiculous. If someone cannot respect you for who you are, than they are not worth the time and effort of earning their respect. A lot of people try to find respect from others because they feel that it is in th eir religion to respect and be respected. Unfortunately, at least for Christians, this is untrue. The bible simply says to love, and bring others to Christ. This does not mean to earn others respect, but just to love them even if they dont respect you. In the case of other people, there is a mix of importance placed on respect. Some people, like myself, depend only on freely given respect that is acquired through normal acts within your general range of behavior, rather than going out of ones way to impress or earn the respect of someone. Sometimes this is misunderstood as not caring what others think of you to the point where you might behave in a manner that is immoral, illegal, and/or distasteful. For instance, I have a friend who only cares what many people would call the â€Å"lower† class of society thinks of her. Therefore, she is drawn into distasteful, immoral and often illegal acts that include violence, allowing others to contribute to her delinquency as a minor, and other various forms of immorality and illegality. These acts are often self-destructive and painful to those who love her, i.e., her parents. By lowering herself to the standard of those she feels she needs respect from, she is carrying that want for respect to a point of hell. The world she is living in is a hell to most people, but due to those who give her a version of respect, it cannot be seen as such. I say version of respect because I have seen the â€Å"respect† that she is given by her â€Å"friends.† These people have no problem betraying her for drugs, or sex, or hurting her parents because they think they have the right. I have no right to truly judge, only He who sits on high can do that, however, from my mortal view, it seems that these people do not know the meaning of respect. I do not see that they respect my friend, or each other, or anyone else. To me, respect means that you listen to someones ideas, follow rules that have been established (i.e. The Ten Commandments, or the law), as well as know when to help someone, or ask them if they need help. To respect someone, is not to assume that they are invincible, because that is idol worship, but to be their friend if they need it, to be able to put petty disagreements in the past, to follow their wishes if you have prayed and know it is in their best interest, due to knowledge gained from God. That kind of respect is what is important to me. Respect given for injuring oneself or breaking a rule is fake, faulty, and will not stand the test of time. True respect, is like true love. It is unconditional. It is timeless. Just as true love can never be taken away, respect for a person is always there once established. Trust can be demolished, so can hate, and anger and envy and all other bad or good things in this world, except for love and respect. Love is God, and He will never be gone; Respect is of love, and once you truly respect someone or something, it cannot be taken away. That may be hard to grasp, because usually respect and trust go hand in hand, and Ive already said that trust can be demolished. However Respect is different than trust. Respect is not just to a person, it can be just something in general. Once it is to or for a person, than yes, it can be destroyed of that person. Real Respect is an attitude. It supercedes the person, and gives way to the total. Real Respect is a state in which you do not defile anyone or anything for your sake. True Respect, real Respect is selfless, because you must give of yourself to respect. This, in turn t yourself if you choose to do so. That is the kind of respect that is important to me, without it, I will never truly feel right, or like myself, as I do now, because I know I have that kind of respect. In May 1962 the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) under the premier Nikita Khrushchev decided to implement a plan to base nuclear missiles in Cuba. According to John Correll a writer with Airforce-Magazine.com, â€Å"He was reacting, superficially at least, to the Jupiter intermediate-range ballistic missiles the United States had recently installed in Turkey. More important, though, Khrushchev wanted to compensate for Russia’s strategic disadvantage in long-range missiles.† (Correll) There was also the nuclear arms race between the USSR and the United States, which was a direct result of the Cold War. The Cold War was named this because it was a period of heightened tensions between the USSR and the USA beginning after World War II however, there was not actually a full war in effect. The nuclear arms race was the result of both superpowers involved in the Cold War’s direct desires to create a better military machine. According to the Flow of History teaching website, â€Å"However, in the late 1950s the arms race combined with continuing Cold War rhetoric made the American public even more afraid of growing Soviet military power than nuclear holocaust† (FC144 the Nuclear Arms Race). This desire of military supremacy through the use of nuclear arms had obvious negative consequences. The USSR wanted to use Cuba as we had used other small nations in proximity to the USSR to stage weapons specifically designed to prevent conflict through their existence. The United States had an important self-realized role, according to author Jutt a Weldes, â€Å"The United States, with its identity as the leader of the free world, had an obligation to itself, to its allies, and to its moral convictions-to act to forestall the toppling of that domino† (Weldes 15-15). Understanding the leaders involved is important to understanding the crisis itself. In the United States the important decision makers regarding the Cuba Missile Crisis were, President John F. Kennedy, National Security Advisor McGeorge Bundy, Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara, the Joint Chiefs of Staff and several other high ranking political leaders. On the USSR’s side the key decision makers were Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev, Cuban leader Fidel Castro and their staff. In the United States President Kennedy was extremely agitated once it was found out that the Soviets were attempting to build missile launchers in Cuba. According to author Ernest r. May et.al, â€Å"For Kennedy, the presence of these missiles was intolerable. During the nex t 13 days (the Crisis lasted for 13 days) Kennedy and a circle of advisers debated how to cope with the challenge, knowing that one possible outcome was nuclear war† (May, Zelikow 11).
